NOTE: Feel free to adjust the ingredients and quantities to suit your personal taste.

Today, I’m going to show you how to make some super creamy and smooth coffee ice cream at home.

If you love coffee, this is going to be your new favorite treat. It’s rich, flavorful, and perfect for a hot day. Plus, it’s easy to make. Let’s get started!

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules (optional, for extra flavor)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

How To Make

  1. Mix the Cream and Milk: Start by pouring the heavy cream and whole milk into a medium saucepan. Heat it over medium heat, but don’t let it boil. You just want it to get warm.
  2. Beat the Egg Yolks and Sugar: While the milk is warming up, grab a bowl and whisk together the egg yolks and sugar. Keep whisking until the mixture turns pale yellow and looks smooth.
  3. Temper the Eggs: Now, slowly pour a little of the warm milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture. This is called tempering. It keeps the eggs from cooking too fast. Stir constantly as you do this.
  4. Combine the Mixtures: Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the rest of the milk. Stir it all together over medium heat. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Don’t let it boil, or the eggs might scramble.
  5. Add Coffee and Flavorings: Once the mixture is thickened, remove it from the heat. Stir in the brewed coffee, instant coffee granules (if using), a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract. Mix it all together until smooth.
  6. Cool the Mixture: Pour the mixture into a bowl and let it cool down to room temperature. Then, cover it with plastic wrap and pop it in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight if you have the time.
  7. Churn the Ice Cream: After the mixture is nice and cold, it’s time to churn. Pour it into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes.
  8. Freeze the Ice Cream: Once it’s done churning, the ice cream will be soft. For a firmer texture, transfer it to a container, cover it, and freeze for a few hours before serving.
  9. Enjoy: Scoop it up, and enjoy your homemade coffee ice cream! It’s creamy, smooth, and full of coffee flavor. Perfect for a treat anytime you need a little pick-me-up.
